Every animal purchased from a breeder or a pet shop fills a home that could have taken in a dog or a cat dying for a home at a local shelter. Each year in the United States, animal shelters are forced to put to death roughly half of the estimated 8 million unwanted dogs and cats who pour into their overwhelmed facilities.

Healthy, social, loveable animals lose their lives because of simple math: too many animals and not enough homes.

Low Income Clinic

The Anti-Cruelty Society also operates a low income clinic for people who may not otherwise be able to afford proper veterinary care. Please call (312) 644-8338 to speak with a clinic receptionist for details on services and qualification criteria.

Pit Pals & Feral Cat Programs

If you own a pit bull or a pit bull mix, you may qualify for participation in our Pit Pals Program, which means you can have your pet spayed or neutered for free. Feral cats, too, can be spayed or neutered for free. For more information, please call (312) 644-8338.

The Animal Welfare League offers $15 micro chipping for pets on the last Saturday of each month between 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm.

This is a blog dedicated to animals; narratives and pictures of my own menagerie and from the out in the field of rescue. One of my goals is to post at least 1 animal a day from the rescues I work with, and to help them find homes. These dogs and cats, puppies and kittens, are all on the brink of euthanasia due to being strays or turned in to animal control by their own "families." I hope to bring some enlightenment to the world about the plight of animals in general, and specifically these domesticated ones.
